Facial Injectables

Your smile doesn’t end with perfect teeth, and when we consider the smile is framed by the lips and the face, it’s a logical progression to look at ways to improve the appearance of the whole smile.

The lips are an essential feature that defines the smile, and luscious plump and full lips are a youthful aesthetic ideal.

We have also introduced injectable muscle relaxants to help define the smile and reduce anomalies including gummy smiles

In the past, our aesthetic dental treatments have always been limited by having to refer our patients out to other clinics, often with mixed results, so we’ve decided to take matters into our own hands. The smile is a dynamic interaction between facial muscles, lips and teeth and our expertise in smile design ensures that the best results are achieved for your individual case.

what is lip enhancement?

Lip enhancement is a cosmetic procedure performed with a completely natural dermal filler (Hyaluronic Acid) that can be used to enhance the volume, shape and definition of the lips. Careful evaluation of injection points and volumes is used to achieve well-defined lips of a desired size and shape. Our philosophy is to make subtle, incremental enhancements. In this way we have complete control over the size and shape of your lips and always have the option of adding additional filler at subsequent visits if desired.

how does it work and what are the benefits?

Lip enhancement is performed in the same manner as wrinkle treatment with injectable dermal fillers. In our clinic we use only biocompatible and natural Hyaluronic Acid strategically placed in and around the lips to:

  • Create Fuller, plumper lips
  • Define the Cupid’s Bow, the V-shaped dip at the centre of your upper lip
  • Treat a ‘gummy smile’ (in conjunction with injectable muscle relaxants)
  • Soften lines and wrinkles around lips (in conjunction with injectable muscle relaxants)
  • Improvement for downturned corners of mouth (in conjunction with injectable muscle relaxants)

what can you expect after treatment?

Your lips will initially be a little swollen, so the new shape of your lips will not be defined for a few days until the swelling settles. It is important to follow post-procedure instructions to ensure you get the best results. After 2 weeks you will return for a review and refinement if necessary, to ensure you achieve the results you want.

what are facial injectables?

Injectable muscle relaxants (BTx) have been used successfully in our practice for the treatment of clenching and grinding disorders, and we can also use these treatments to improve the appearance of the smile. The muscle relaxing agent is completely safe in suitable patients and its effects last for up to 6 months on average. Our philosophy is to make subtle, incremental enhancements.

how does it work and what are the benefits?

The muscle relaxing agents work by blocking the nerve endings that connect to muscle fibres, reducing their activity for several months. After a period of time the nerve endings regenerate and the effect is reversed. With continued use, the muscles learn to relax and reduce in activity. We can use injectable muscle relaxants as adjunctive treatments to smile enhancements by controlling lip movement in gummy smiles and reducing the appearance of lines or wrinkles around the smile.

what are the risks

We use only proven medications that are safe and well tolerated by the body . Allergic reactions to this substance are extremely rare. The results of treatment are expected to last for approximately 6 months. Some common minor side-effects include:

  • Slight bleeding, redness or itchiness at injection sites
  • Some systemic conditions preclude the use of these treatments. Some people experience headaches on the day of administration

We take a thorough medical history and background check to ensure that any complications are minimised.

what can you expect after treatment?

You won’t notice the effects of treatment for several days. The full effect can take up to 2 weeks. After 2 weeks you will return for a review and refinement if necessary, to ensure you achieve the results you want.
